and the winner is........

Me!  Thanks to the random selector thingy at Little Paper Shop, I got a lovely digi to add to my stash for my card made for the challenge yesterday. Thank you to all!  I have nearly completed a card containing the digi, so keep looking folks.  Cheers,

It's nice to feel well again..........

I have not been well - nothing earthshattering, just nasty. It is pleasing to be feeling human again.  I have not felt much like making anything, but did promise a get-well card (on commission) for a male who supports Essendon Football Club.  Also have a friend who is about to undergo a knee-replacement operation, so had to make him a card, and then decided I had a few hours left before the end of the day today, so made one card for a few challenges.

Challenges:

Just Scraps #13 - Schools Out
Little Paper Shop LPSC73 - bright and colourful
Mojo Monday Sketch 144  - MOJO144

The card is SU Brocade Blue.  The paper is a piece left over from a baby boy kit I had (unknown maker).  The sentiment stickers are old; the background square is from Prima Flowers packaging; the tags and frame are from my stash from years past; the image (stamped with black Memento ink and coloured with Copics) is from a stamp by Shirley's2Girls - Grace with balloons; and the letter stickers are also old from the stash.

This is the commissioned card.  The background was created using the thinner strip in WMS - Picnic Patterns and following the instructions in Claire's blog on how to make a plaid background. I used SU Riding Hood Red and Basic Grey for the Football team colours, and then used the sentiment from the WSM - Asian Gardens.  The image is a rubber stamp from that I collected free with my magazine subscription Craft Stamper and is about 12 - 18 months old. I used Memento black to ink it and coloured it with Copics to create the idea of the Essendon jumper.  The football is from the computer.  I layered up the image and the senitment with black and then red card to lift them off the page a bit, and used dimentionals under the football also. Here is a close-up of the injured person:

The next card uses a digi image from I Brake for Stamps, of a frog on a walker.  I thought it appropriate for my friend as he is going to be using a cane or walker for a few weeks after an operation to repair/replace his knee.  I printed it off on my old inkjet printer,  and used the Copics to colour it, and then assembled it using SU Green Galore card, and SU craft card, and my Fiskar's loop punch. A bit of green ribbon and the sentiment is from WSM - Asian Gardens, stamped in SU Handsome Hunter. Inside the card used the same image. I tried to be amusing but it falls a bit flat.

Holiday time - Queen's Birthday Long Weekend!

Funny we should have a holiday for the Queen's birthday when she is not even our Queen (well, only nominally) and it is not even her birthday!  It has been a lovely blue winter's day - sun shining and no wind.

Thought I would use up the two images I created at a Copic's class I went to last weekend for two hours, to learn how to use the pens properly.  I have neither stamp, as they are old one's belonging to the instructor - but they are cute and good for colouring.  So, they are done using only a few colours in Ciao's - I will try to remember which ones.  I made two cards.

This one will be entered in the Friends Having Fun Colour Challenge #3 and the Creative Cottage Challenge #14 - Going Pink!

I used SU card so my colours are the new Melon Mambo, and Green Galore, with Lovely Lilac.  The ribbon is from the stash, and the punch for the bottom is one of Martha Stewart's - Doily Hearts Edge.  I saved some of the punched out hearts and stuck one on the image and several inside on the inset. I added three bits of bling (big bits).  The sentiment is from WMS - Asian Garden. The Ciaos used were Dress -  BV00, BV02 (plus one I borrowed for the trim), Hair - W3, E43, E32, YR00, Skin - YR00, Flowers - RV04 (probably) and lots of white gel pen.  The whole lot was outlined with C1.

This card used only a few Ciao pens - YR00 and YR02, darkened down with E43, and outlined with C1.  The bow is done with BG01 and B05. The eyes and the star were coloured with B05.    The image is mounted on blue paper, and on a sheet from a pad of Adhesive Paper Prints by DCWV. The blue ribbon is Celebrate, and the sentiment is a sticker from a booklet purchased from Joann's in Denver, USA. The whole is then mounted onto a commercial card blank.

This one was inspired by a clothing label attached to a new vest in black and red colours (abstract flowers) - the label is Motto.  I really liked this image of the girl drawn from the back, and so used it in this card.  The image is attached to a piece of black patteren paper roughly torn and then sponged with SU Riding Hood Red. The Whisper White card piece it is attached to was stamped with the SU background stamp Sanded, in the same red ink.  The gaffer tape is from 7 gypsies, and the word and flower are from a collection of chipboard pieces I had collected some time ago in a kit.  I do not know the name of the collection. All was then mounted onto a commercial card blank. I think it looks fresh!

Challenges - yes, it was!

Decided to use an image I had coloured a few months ago using my SU markers and a waterbrush.  The digi image is called 'Patience' but the artist's name (mjm) is missing from my file so don't know who drew it - cute though! It reminds me of my grandson and the way he picks up the family pets!

This is a Challenge for Just Scraps Challenge #11: red, blue and yellow.
Also for Little Paper Shop Bright Color Challenge LSPC7: red, yellow, blue
(I think the folks in the northern hemisphere are being influenced by the summer weather!)

This card was quickly thrown together so it mucked up as a result - the haste meant that it was not straight anywhere, and after peeling various pieces off and putting them on again, it is less than perfect! However, it is all SU card used, and the red card has been through the Cuttlebug folder for embossing called Stars. The Whisper White has been mounted on yellow card, and the whole lot placed onto blue card, folded into a left opening card format. There is an off white inset added inside but it is blank. As mentioned, the image was coloured using SU markers and a waterbrush, and the heart on the knee has Dimentional Magic on it - it's sitting on  my desktop so I see it all the time - and the bling hearts were added as a last minute addition to lift it. Thanks for looking.

Saturday Afternoon Pleasures

Listening to the footy, (especially when the Hawkes are winning) and sunshine, a warm place to craft and a full tummy (H's homemade vegetable soup) - what more could one want on a cold early winter's day.   I have got some cards that were made earlier this week, so here goes.

Firstly, this card uses SU Pocket Sillouette stamps, So Saffron and Not Quite Navy ink, Whisper White card and some scrap DP, some ribbon bought in Joann's in Denver USA, and bling. It's a simple layout all put onto a blue commercial card blank. The card has an inset of white.

This card again uses a commercial blank (white) from Regal Press, various flowers, some ribbon from Kaiser, scrap card and papers, a rub on, and the jewels in the middle of the flowers were plain glass covered with my copic pens to match the flower colour I was looking for (I didn't believe this would work as well as it did!). The ribbon was wrapped around a piece of white card scrap, and then the black squares with the pink dotty paper layered on it were layered on top of the ribbon with one off-set. This was then stuck onto the card blank. The flowers were put on next, and I used Dimentional Magic to glue them on and to glue the jewel in the middle of each bloom as well. The rub-on was place there last.

This card was inspired by one I saw in a magazine - I used my Waltzing Mouse stamp set - Asian Gardens - for the screen background; my Japanese lady was a stamp from Craft Stampers (UK Magazine) designed by Hobby Art, stamped with black Memento ink and coloured by Copic pens.  This image was mounted on yellow card and then onto red stamped with the screen in SU Basic Grey ink.  All this was layered onto the red Bazzil piece and then glued onto a commercial white blank from Regal Press. Then the 'lucky coins' were added - again I used Dimentional Magic to glue them on.  The lady was set up on the card with foam squares.

Now, back to crafting.........

Two posts in one day!

Just Scraps Challenge 10 - No 2.

I made another card today - and  thought I would post that as well.  Again the idea came from someone else for the sentiment, which I wrote by hand on yellow card; the image is from my collection of free stamps from The Stamper (UK magazine) - it is the 3rd one I collected and I now have over 40, so you can see I like them! I used Memories London Fog ink again to stamp and coloured with my Copics, as I have been to a Copic colouring class (yesterday) and learned a few things not to do!  I layered up the image and used the Cuttlebug to emboss some scrap paper; added a fishy charm and three beads for the bubbles and that was it.  Layered onto Aqua Bazzil and all on a white commercial blank from Regal Press.

Frogs - and me.....

Jean at Just Scraps provided a paper piecing kit for entrants in her challenge a few weeks ago (see last blog) , and because I entered I got one! So, as I am a frog addict, I got a frog and here it is!  It is a bit too big for a card though, so I thought I might make it the front cover of a child's booklet about frogs.  Sometime in the next future, when I have time.........but it is a fermenting idea.

Cute Huh! Thank's heaps Jean.

Now, she has a new challenge this week - Just Scraps Challenge Number 10!  It is Dandelion Yellow.  That's why mine is a rose..............but a yellow rose! It is as a result of a playdate I had with Lynda's Mum, Anne - who is visiting from the UK.  Anne is also a StampinUp demonstrator, and she makes beautiful cards.  You can see on her blog here.  Back to the entry: it is using one of her SU stamp sets called A Rose is a Rose, which is a 2 step stamping set.  Anne showed myself and my friend Gimi this technique and I was practicing this (badly) and this is the result.

I have used a scrap of green from my scrap store, and then embossed it with the cuttlebug and layered the flower, which was stamped twice- using SU So Saffron and Summer Sun  - and fussy cut. The sentiment is from Verve stamps, and is also stamped twice - once in green and once in yellow ink - onto SU Confetti White paper. The green card is also layered onto the Confetti White which has been distressed. The ribbon is a striped one I have picked up somewhere like Spotlight. All has been put onto a cream commercial blank.

'Just Scraps' are not just scraps!

I have just recieved a very nice email from Jean at 'Just Scraps' telling me to select a paper piecing package from http://www.paperandpiecings.com/ as I had been selected for this week's bounty!  YUM. Thanks Jean! I, of course, chose a frog! I use a lot of scraps in my work - I have three whole drawers full of paper and card scrap  I cannot throw anything away that might be useful one day!

I have a couple of cards to put up as well, constructed over the weekend. The first one was a construction only as I had made all the bits a while ago - the girl is a digi image coloured with copics, when I was first learning to do this.  I masked her out after colouring her in and sponged green ink around the image.  She is printed up on SU Glossy White and I only had about 6 copics then, so colour choice was limited.  It is mounted on royal blue scrap and the ricrac matches the purple well.  The flower and leaves are from another digi from Fred She Said, coloured with copics as well and then with Dimentional Magic - just to see what happened! The leves and petals curled nicely and the shine is excellent. The card is a commercial blank from Regal Press.

The second card is also using SU Glossy White and sponging, but this time I sponged some SU inks (Old Olive, So Saffron, Melon Mambo and Apricot Appeal) on the card to start with and then stamped over this with a Memento London Fog ink. I used copics to put some additional colour onto the image and drew in the flight of birds in the top RHS.  The stamps are two sets - SU Lovely as a Tree and WMS Irish Blessings for both the house and the sentiment. I used my stamp positioner to line up the horizon on the two stamps to try and give an illusion of one big picture.  I cut the resulting image into three and mounted it on black and then again on SU Melon Mambo card. The sentiment is stamped with SU Close to Cocoa ink.

The third card again used the SU Lovely as a Tree - but this time it is on SU Whisper White and the stamp was coloured using SU markers. The sentiment is from SU Greetings Galore (no longer available). I mounted it on Chocolate Chip then Close to Cocoa card and used a piece of My Mind's Eye DP, Bohemia BH2158 as background and a piece of ribbon from Kaisercraft. The buttons came from my Mum's old button box - and it sent me back on a journey of memories as I sorted through the various colours and button there; took me about an hour to get the buttons because I was reliving old times. The card blank is Close to Cocoa.

Card number four is another cased idea, using the sentiment, which I created on the computer. Cut out and mounted on Lovely Lilac card, and sponged with Elegant Eggplant it looked OK. The stamp is one from Inky Antics, stamped onto Canson 250g paper, and coloured with Copics after stamping with Memento London Fog.  However, because it was not dark enough I then went over the outlines in black pen. The background is from a booklet of paper  - DCWV Pocket Full of Posies - and has sparkly bits on it as well! The card is a commercial blank from Regal Press.

The fifth card is a case using the SU Think Happy Thoughts stamp set, and it was meant to be quick and simple.  However, when I stamped the flowers onto the Bashful Blue card I didn't get them in the correct place, so they are not aligned; the sentiments are stamped in Melon Mambo and are OK, but the centre one was out of align and the flower in the middle wasn't in the middle (you cannot see it now because I used one of my delicious new flowers from Celebrations Wild Roses to cover that up); and I used some bling to disguise the other mess; and to top it all, I didn't like it once it was done either, so a revamp was necessary. I then mounted the Whisper White onto Melon Mambo card, added the flower and bling and decided it would do.

The inside has a white inset stamped with other sentiments and several flowers from the same set as before.

What's in a week?

Just scraps Challenge 9: I am going to enter two cards in this challenge - the second and forth card in this batch.

About seven days I think since I blogged last time - well, I have been busy socialising and yes, I have made some cards as well and tried to clean up my work space, but not my desk - and I have been doing some plain air painting with my friend Glenda, at her place at Wattle Grove. I was experimenting with an abstract, but it looked like a landscape gone wrong, but Rosemary, who was there in the afternoon, suggested I turned it on its side and hey presto! I have an abstract bunch of flowers! Oh, and I did four hours relief teaching on Monday. Now for the cards made..........

Well, card number one is one I did for a friend's birthday very quickly yesterday afternoon.  It uses SU products and the SU Always stamp set, and SU DP; and an old Stamp It sentiment stamp. I stamped the bird in Wasabe Green ink,  and coloured the flowers with the markers. I sponged Melon Mambo ink around the edges and glued it to a scrap of green card.  The I glued another scrap behind that, and added a piece of paper to allow me to write a message on that. Then I positioned the message on the RHS so that it was hidden behind the bird when the card was closed. The front of the card is just folded back at the half way point.  Here is inside it.

The second card also has a bird on it - from my TJ Designs - Song Birds.  The branch the nest is resting on is from my new WMS - Asian Gardens and the pink flowers are also from there.  I was practising using my stamp positioner to get the nest on the branch, the second brown bird on the branch and the flowers in the right place. I wrote the sentiment and the last line went up to the right a little! BAD GIRL!  I mounted it all on SU Close to Cocoa, and then on Melon Mambo.  I used my Martha Stewart punch for the Birds on a Wire at the top of the pink card! I then put all on a white commercial card blank, added a simple insert with the birds nest stamped in grey just on the bottom RHS.  I used the SU markers to colour the single bird and the nest, and sponged the edges of the card in Melon Mambo.

Just Scraps Challenge 9 - first one:

Sorry the next bird card is out of focus, but it is not very good - I used pattern papers and drew up and cut out the birds and then glued them onto scrap red card.  I tied red string around them, and then wrote the two words in black pen.  I also outlined the birds in black marker. I mounted the red card on an aqua card before putting them onto the patterned paper scrap and then the whole lot again on a red card.  I needed to have made the birds smaller and to have put the string down lower on each square.  It could be a retirement card or a birthday one.......

This card is simple and a case from my ideas book using the SU stamp set Natural Beauty.  I randomly stamped the flower onto my base card with Close to Cocoa ink, stamping off once each time before stamping onto the card.  I then stamped the word square onto craft using the same ink and stamping off first again.  I then mounted the square on green scrap, and used a piece of the same card to place across the stamped card.  A piece of light green ribbon completed the card and I stamped the same flower image the same way (just once) onto the inset.

This card was also quick and simple - and a cased idea - using a peel-off spider's web, asd well as a spider I had as an embellishment, and a drawn line to connect the two.  The word was stamped with a small letter set using black Stayzon, and the ribbon was threaded through a button and attached to a scrap of red stripy card on the RHS.  The whole lot was then put onto red card, with a white inset (blank).

The last card was me just deciding to use the coloured digi (when I was practising using copics) I had of an iris, and mounting it on scrap yellow and green card before I made a card blank from green bazzil. I again added a blank inset - there is no sentiment on this card and it can be used for a notelet or birthday or just to say hello. I made it when I was cleaning up the desk space - so far I have moved all the scrap I have collected in the last two weeks to one other desk and changed my base sheet on the desk.  I had better treat this seriously and get to cleaning before I disappear into the mess, never to be found again!
